Registration
What is the age restriction?
How fit do I need to be?
There is no strenuous physical exercise involved. If you can walk normally then you should manage the Firewalk perfectly well. If you have any doubts please consult your GP before attending.
What is the registration fee?
There is a non-refundable registration fee of £30 for the firewalk.
Fundraising
What is the minimum sponsorship amount?
We ask everyone to raise a minimum of £350 for the firewalk, and ask that 60% of fundraising is done before the event date.
How do I fundraise?
When you register you will automatically be set up with your own fundraising page. You’ll need to keep a note of your login details and will also be sent a confirmation email with your fundraising page link.
What happens if I don’t reach my target?
We set the minimum fundraising target amount to allow us to cover the costs of running the event, while raising enough to go towards supporting our vital work funding pioneering projects to support the health and wellbeing of our NHS patients, staff, and community.
You’ll receive tailored advice and tips to help you get the best chance of reaching your target, but if you are struggling, please get in touch with stephanie.still1@nhs.net so you can discuss ways of reaching your target.
On the day
How do I get there?
The full address is Regent's Place Plaza, Euston Road, London NW1 3DP. The closest underground stations are Warren Street (Northern and Victoria line) and Great Portland Street (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan). There is no onsite parking available.
What time should I arrive?
Registration is at 6pm and training will start at 6.30pm. We recommend arriving 15 minutes before registration opens.
What should I wear on the day?
There is no special clothing required. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing and keep in mind that what you wear could become ash stained. You'll need to wear footwear that can easily be removed and flip flops might be a good idea to bring.
Nail varnish and toe rings are fine. Your feet are going to be sooty afterwards. We recommend wearing light coloured clothing as this shows up better in photographs and videos.
Can I wear fancy dress?
Fancy dress can make the experience even more fun! If you are planning to wear fancy dress for the firewalk, please send stephanie.still1@nhs.net a picture beforehand. The firewalk company can’t allow some fancy dress for safety reasons so it is best to double check beforehand.
Can I leave my belongings?
You can leave belongings with a staff member in the reception area but please note we can’t take responsibility for missing or stolen items. We would recommend leaving valuables in your office or with friends and family who are watching.
About the firewalk
What is a firewalk?
Participants will undergo training of around one hour. When the fire has burned to red-hot embers it is
raked level and prepared for the walk. Participants go to the fire, remove their footwear and one by one
are invited to walk the coals.
Who runs the firewalk?
The firewalk is run by Fundraising Firewalk Association (FFA UK), a professional team with extensive experience in organising firewalk events for charities. They will provide all the necessary training, and support to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Do I need experience?
No previous experience is required. Participants will undergo training of around one hour before the event and then you will be ready to go!
There is no preparation to undertake. No treatment of the feet or mental exercise, just the training provided at the seminar. You should abstain from the consumption of alcohol or drugs prior to the event. Any person who is in the opinion of the trainer unfit to participate will NOT be permitted to take part.
Will it hurt?
The sensation is described by some as walking on eggshells, and others walking on hot sand. Each walker has his or her own experience. We have not known walkers to experience pain and when the opportunity arises many will walk across the coals more than once.
