What is the CAMHS Summer Step Challenge?

The CAMHS Summer Step Challenge is a friendly team challenge taking place throughout July. The aim is simple: get moving, enjoy some healthy competition and help your team clock up as many steps as possible over the month.

Whether you’re walking to work, taking the stairs, heading out at lunchtime or going for a weekend stroll, every step counts.

When is the challenge taking place?

The challenge runs throughout July. You can take part whenever suits you during the month and add your steps as you go.

Who can take part?

The challenge is for colleagues working across CAMHS services. Colleagues from across the wider organisation are also encouraged to support teams by donating and cheering them on.

Do I need to be a serious walker or runner?

Not at all. This challenge is for everyone. You can take part at your own pace, whether that means short walks, regular movement breaks, walking meetings or aiming for a bigger personal goal.

How are steps counted?

Your team’s total is made up of everyone’s individual steps during July. The more steps each person logs, the more your team can climb the leaderboard.

How do I take part?

Register for the challenge, find your team and join it. Once you are signed up, you can start logging your steps throughout July.

How do I find my team?

When you register, search for your service or team name and join the relevant group. Here are the list of teams:

What if I cannot find my team?

Try searching using a shortened version of your team or service name. If it still does not appear, please contact your manager or challenge lead.

Registration

How do I log my steps?

You have two options: connect a fitness app to automatically sync your activity, or manually add your steps through your fundraising page.

To get started, select My Fitness Activity from the menu on your fundraising page.

Can I connect a fitness app?

Yes. You can connect a compatible fitness app, including Fitbit, Garmin or Google Fit, to automatically sync your activity.

If you choose Fitbit - you do not need a Fitbit app but you will need a Fitbit account and the Fitbit app on your phone to track your steps.

How do I connect Fitbit?

Go on your steps challenge account and can go to My Fitness Activity, select Fitbit, then sign in to your Fitbit account. Choose the account you would like to connect and follow the prompts to allow your activity to sync.

You do not need a Fitbit device for this as long as you have the Fitbit app on your phone. 

Can I add my steps manually?

Yes. Go to My Fitness Activity and scroll to the Add Activity section.

Choose the date, select Walk as the activity type, enter your number of steps and select Save Changes.

When will my steps appear on my page

Manually added steps should appear within an hour, if you've synced to a Fitness app it may take 24 hours. 

Fundraising and Leaderboards

Do I have to fundraise?

No. Fundraising is completely optional. You can take part in the Step Challenge simply to get moving and help your team clock up steps.

When you register, you will automatically receive a personal fundraising page, which you can choose to share with friends, family and colleagues if you would like to raise money.

Will I have my own fundraising page?

Yes. When you register, a personal fundraising page will be created for you automatically.

You can personalise it and share it with friends, family and colleagues if you would like to ask for donations. There will also be a main team fundraising page, where your team’s fundraising total will be shown.

Are there prizes?

Yes. There will be prizes for the highest individual fundraisers and teams. There will also be prizes for the highest amount of steps in July - both individual and teams. More details about the prizes will be shared during the challenge.

Where can I see how I am doing?

The leaderboard will show both individual and team progress, so you can see how you are doing personally and how your team is performing.

How often will the leaderboard update?

The leaderboard will update as steps are logged and synced. Please note that manually added activity may take up to 24 hours to appear.
